Still Have Yet to Visit

We still have not been able to visit Burrus elementary school, but hopefully, we will go this Friday for a few hours to make up for the missed weeks.  Mrs. Johnson still isn't replying to emails about fixing my email in the system, so I'm still working on that.  Hopefully I will have more to report next week.

CIS: Background Check Cleared!

I received an email from Mrs. Johnson notifying me that my background check had cleared and that I would be able to start volunteering at Burrus Elementary School.  I plan on calling to notify the school what days I am available to volunteer and I should start this Friday. I'm really excited!  I still need to give Mrs. Johnson my actual email, but she never seems to be available when I call and I've tried emailing her. I'll keep trying to contact her, but as of now, I'm receiving the emails indirectly though Stephanie, Helen, and Liz.

CIS Blog 2

On Friday, I visited Burrus Elementary School.  When I arrived at the main office, I informed the lady working the desk that I would be a CIS volunteer at the school.  She asked for a copy of my ID and said that it would take about a week to process.  She gave me her business card and I plan on contacting her next Friday to find out whether the registration process is completed and find out when I can start volunteering.  From what I've seen so far, the school looks organized and the kids seem enthusiastic, so I'm excited to work with them.

CIS Registration

Today, I found out that I haven't been getting the CIS email because they misspelled my email address.  now that I have the email and the necessary information to register, I can fill in the VIPS form and choose a school to volunteer at.

I decided that I would like to volunteer at an elementary school near by because I feel like it would be more fulfilling for me to help the younger kids.  As of now, my options are Cage Elementary School and Burrus Elementary School.  I'm leaning more towards Burrus because it is a fine arts magnet school, so the students are more likely to be open to learning.

I don't know how realistic I'm being, but I really hope to inspire at least one student to love science as much as I do.
